MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) controllers are electronic instruments programmed to produce any sound you imagine. Commonly used as drum machines they are capable of much more. You will design, build and program MIDI controllers using an Arduino board, SketchUp for the design aspect, and then 3D print granting complete control in tailoring the instrument aesthetic and functional goals. Circuits, digital output (in the form of switches, pressure sensitive buttons, dials, and midi cables), and programming will be part of your learning. The printed instrument can easily use any open source music production programs: Digital Audio Workstation, Fruity Loops, or any software of your choice.
